Rat Race: Be contented (Part 1)

Your attraction is a function of your composition. What catches your fancy is a reflection of what is in you. Rats can only be attracted to Rats. Little men can only be attracted to little things – to little people. Great men are only attracted to Great things – to Great People – Femi Adediran, 2020

We are not Rat because we are poor but we are poor because we are Rats living with Rats mentality – Femi Adediran, 2020

It is one thing to run so fast. It is another to run so far. Speed does not necessarily mean “forward movement”. We can run so fast even in opposite direction – Femi Adediran, 2020

The company “we keep, is borne out of what “we keep” within us. In reality, we don’t choose our friends. Our friends are naturally attracted to us – Femi Adediran, 2020

You are not successful because of what you have, you are successful because of who you are. Success is first and foremost who you are before it becomes what you have – Femi Adediran, 2020

We are not defined by our possession but by what possess us – Femi Adediran, 2020

Our transformation from nobody to somebody begins when value is more important to us than success – Femi Adediran, 2020

It’s amazing how we can run from pillar to post everyday of our life with sweats all over our face. It’s a Rat Race. We run so fast,  yet not so far. It is one thing to run so fast. It is another to run so far. Speed does not necessarily mean “forward movement”. We can run so fast even in opposite direction. And when we had ran so far, we need to answer the question: how well has it been with us?

It is not “how far” but “how well”. We all are  caught up in Rat Race running so fast yet getting nowhere. Rat Race is for Rats. We run in “the company of Rats” every day because when you are in Rat race, your company can only be rodents. We run around in the dark like rats like other rats with no clear sense of directions even with our eyes wide open working tirelessly to avoid traps here and there. You can only be attracted to your “own company”.

Where you always want to be is your “own company”. In the company of other Rats. Your attraction is a function of your composition. What catches your fancy is a reflection of what is in you. Rats can only be attracted to Rats. Little men can only be attracted to little things – to little people. Great men are only attracted to Great things – to Great People. The company “we keep, is borne out of what “we keep” within us. In reality, we don’t choose our friends. Our friends are naturally attracted to us.

We are a walking magnets attracting things and people according to our magnetic properties. And if you think you have the wrong things or people in your life, check your own magnetic properties. We are naturally drawn to our own category. We are naturally drawn to our own class because water will always rise to its own level. We are not defined by our class. Rather, we are the one who defines our own class. Your class is not better than you and you are not better than your own class. We are not Rat because we are poor but we are poor because we are Rats living with Rats mentality. Poverty is a mentality which eventually becomes our reality. You are not successful because of what you have, you are successful because of who you are. Success is first and foremost who you are before it becomes what you have.

We are not defined by our possession but by what possess us. Our transformation from nobody to somebody begins when value is more important to us than success. Real success is a measure of values that lies within us. Men of success are everywhere but men of value are rare!

When are you in a Rat Race?

  • When you always compare your spouse to other people, you are in Rat Race
  • When you are overly worried about tomorrow, you are in Rat Race
  • When “you don’t like” your own children, you are in Rat Race
  • When you find it difficult to help others even when it is within your capacity, you are in Rat Race.
  • When all that matters to you is winning, you are in Rat Race
  • When all you want to do is to be at the forefront at all times, you are in Rat Race
  • When you are “secretly happy” when others fail, you are in Rat Race
  • When you cannot celebrate other people’s success, you are in Rat Race
  • When all that matters to you is to get at all times, you are in Rat Race
